Introduction
Welcome to The Rebel Faction, or as its members call it (whether with great fondness or vengeful spite) TRF. TRF is a pretty complex place, and starting here out has the potential of being a difficult and rocky experience. I'll do my best to explain how the basics work, and give you some tips on how to make it easier to integrate yourself.

If you want the simple explanation of what TRF actually is, well, you're going to get something like, "It's a MAAAAAAADDHOOOUSEEE" (courtesy of the great Ren). The shortest, simplest explanation I can give you is this: TRF is a forum-based Star Wars fan-fiction and Role-Playing website. Our members are here primarily to write Star Wars fiction.

Interested in that? Great, let's move right along.

What is Role-Playing?
TRF doesn't really role-play in the conventional sense. Role-playing generally means acting out scenes over a game of D&D, or pretending to be someone else in a LARP. On TRF, our method of role-playing is more like fan fiction than anything else. Here we write detailed and interesting stories about people and places in the Star Wars universe. Check out our primary fiction forum, The Battlegrounds for a lot of examples of our writing.

You should also note that, while the forum is named 'The Battlegrounds', this forum is not just restricted to battles. It is our general fiction forum, all kinds of writing is welcome.

The Role-playing Environment
On some SW (Star Wars) boards, everyone and his dog is a Jedi. On TRF, almost everyone has a Jedi character tucked away somewhere, but for the most part our fiction is written from a non-force user perspective. And generally these people just happen to be the leaders of some great and mighty government.

On TRF, people can author fiction, based in the Star Wars universe, about a unique government and its interactions with the rest of the galaxy. At some times TRF can be positively creepy in how the various fictional governments mimic governments of our real world.

I'm new, what can I do?
This could be a complex answer. To be truthful, you can do almost anything you want on TRF, provided you use the common sense that is instilled in everyone at birth. Since I cannot specify what a newbie has to do, I'll provide a list of suggestions of things that I would strongly recommend any beginner to do.

1 - Read the rules. This one is a no-brainer. Read the rules, and if you have questions, ask in the OOC forum. Everyone was a beginner at one time, you'll find us more than happy to explain anything confusing. You only have to read the top part of the rules (general conduct); the bit about fleeting probably won't apply to you yet.

2 - Register and confirm your username This too, is a no-brainer. You can't do any discussion in our forums unless you have a valid username. This isn't hard to do; it will only take a few minutes of your time. Head on over here and do it now if you haven't already. If your confirmation email does not come through, you can click here to re-send it.

3 - Post a hullo message This is probably a user-specific suggestion. Some people feel silly posting a "Hi I'm new" thread, and others don't. If you don't feel like doing it, don't. If you do post one you will receive copious amounts of greetings.

4 - Lurk! Hopefully you've already been doing some of this. I would encourage you to do so, if you haven't already. If you don't know what lurking means, well, it's pretty simple. A Lurker is someone who reads, but posts not at all, or very little. Lurking is a great way to learn more about a community and how it works without making a fool of yourself by posting constantly.

5 - Test the Role-Playing waters We have a forum that was created specifically for newbies to gain their wings with. The Astral Astoria is a forum with a single-theme, indeed, it is our only single-themed forum. It's based around a mysterious space station that appeared out of nowhere one day, smack in the middle of a major trading route in the Corporate Sector. Feel free to start a thread, or reply to any thread not marked 'Closed'.
